Fifi Bell-Clanton is a co-founder and co-owner of Brooklyn restaurant The Crabby Shack along with her business partner Gwen Woods.
In Philadelphia, where Bell-Clanton grew up, crabs are popular fare. Every neighborhood in Philly has a few crab places serving up – steamed and seasoned to perfection – Blue crab, Dungeness crab, and Alaskan Snow crab. Upon moving to New York, Bell-Clanton had the unpleasant realization that that was not the case there. She found herself often making crab for herself, and preparing crab perfection became a passion of hers. It became a dream for Bell-Clanton to open a restaurant dedicated to serving delicious crabs in Brooklyn.
In 2019, both Bell-Clanton and Woods were featured in the documentary She Did That, which takes an in-depth look at the lives and businesses of black women entrepreneurs.
Prior to opening The Crabby Shack in 2012, Bell-Clanton worked in fashion as a stylist and as an assistant account executive at Gucci.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Quinnipiac University.
