Full Bio

Yvette Freeman achieved one of her greatest accomplishments and lost over 1/3 of her weight several years ago. Losing weight meant she had won over diabetes and heart disease and a goal she means to keep up. It’s been a struggle to maintain that loss but one of the inspirations along that road is being able to speak on those topics to women in the various walks of life especially as a National Advocacy Ambassador for the Diabetes Association. In addition to speaking engagements about health concerns (diabetes, heart disease, obesity and being vigilant about keeping the weight off) Freeman continues her popular role as “Nurse Haleh Adams” on the award winning NBC series ER.

In 2007, Freeman starred in the musical “All About Us,” at the Westport Country Playhouse. She will be a guest star on various television series including the new Saving Grace, with Holly Hunter.

Freeman is an Ovation Award winner and a NAACP Award winner for her performance in the play “Dinah Was” (in the role of Dinah Washington), off-Broadway in New York, and in Los Angeles, where she also won for Best Actress in a Musical, from LA Weekly.

Freeman developed her love of performing from her father, jazz pianist Charles Freeman. She received her BA from the University of Delaware, in Art and Theater. The theater became her life with her first major performance in the Broadway musical sensation “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” which utilized her tremendous singing voice, and led to roles on stage, television, and in feature films.

Freeman starred in The First National, Paris, and International companies of “Ain’t Misbehavin’.” Freeman’s other stage credits include “Elegies for Angel Punks and Raging Queens,” “Nunsense,” “Show Boat,” “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” and “Member of the Wedding.” National and international touring company productions include “The Wiz,” “Don’t Bother Me, I Can’t Cope,” “Voices, Inc.,” and “Mademoiselle Rose” in Monte Carlo and China.

On television, Freeman has played “Nurse Adams” on the NBC drama ER for 14 seasons. In addition she has been a guest-star in numerous series including Nip/Tuck, Presidio Med, That’s Life, Boston Public, Judging Amy, NYPD Blue, The John Larroquette Show, Sisters, and many more. Her feature film credits include roles in Switch, Dead Again, Children of the Corn III, and Angus Bethune. She was also seen in the HBO movie Norma and Marilyn.
