Simu Liu stars as the lead in Marvel Studio’s newest franchise, SHANG CHI, playing the titular character opposite Awkwafina. Simu Liu stars as the lead in Marvel Studio’s newest franchise, SHANG CHI, playing the titular character opposite Awkwafina. Liu is best known for his role as “Jung” in Canada’s hit TV show, “Kim’s Convenience”, for which he has received rave reviews. Simu, who writes and directs in addition to acting, just signed a major publishing deal with HarperCollins to release his memoir, which “will recount his complicated childhood, including the weight of immigrant family expectations, his determination to follow his dream, and his gratitude for his parents’ sacrifices, love and life lessons.” Simu’s short that he wrote, directed, and starred in, CRIMSON DEFENDER VS THE SLIGHTLY RACIST FAMILY, won the “Best Ensemble Cast Award” at the Asians On Film Festival Awards in 2015.

Simu, whose family moved from China to Canada when he was a child, originally worked as an accountant, before moving over to acting as an extra in Legendary’s PACIFIC RIM in 2012. Soon after, he began nabbing smaller roles in films like BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and NIKITA before getting his big break in the short lived NBC series TAKEN. Simu has also guest-starred in FRESH OFF THE BOAT, ORPHAN BLACK, BAD BLOOD, THE EXPANSE and MAKE IT POP. On the endorsements side, Simu became the first Canadian Ambassador for Old Spice this past year.
