Actor, director, and producer Patrick Dempsey has been a fixture of film and television for decades—from star-making turns in several ‘80s teen classics to his now-iconic role as Dr. Derek Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy, for which he earned a 2007 Screen Actors Guild Award and nominated for in 2006 and 2007 for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series-Drama.

Dempsey was seen in Bridget Jones’s Baby, alongside Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth. He recently completed his directorial debut in a TAG Heuer spot. Among his other notable appearances, he can be seen in Transformers: Dark of The Moon, Valentine’s Day, Made of Honor, Enchanted, Freedom Writers, Sweet Home Alabama, Scream 3, With Honors, Outbreak, Can’t Buy Me Love and Loverboy, among others. Dempsey can be seen next in the TV mini-series The Truth About the Harry, Quebert Affair and film projects, including The Postcard Killings and Berlin, I Love You.

Patrick Dempsey’s production company, Shifting Gears produces content for both television and film.  Amongst a slate of projects, they are developing a series based on the novel The Limit at AMC, as well as a series called Fodor’s which is being developed at NBC International.  Shifting Gears is also a producer on Universal’s, Art of Racing in the Rain.

Dempsey first appeared onstage as David in the San Francisco production of Torch Song Trilogy.  His production company, Shifting Gears, produces content for both television and film.

Dempsey, who maintains a sports car and vintage car collection and a semi-pro racing team, is an avid race car driver and has competed in numerous pro-am events.

In 2008, he opened the doors of the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing in his hometown of Lewiston, Maine following his mother’s battle with the disease.  The center provides a personalized, holistic and integrated approach to cancer prevention, education, and support. Each fall, the Dempsey Challenge, a run, walk and cycle fundraising experience takes place to raise funds for free support, education and integrative medicine services to anyone impacted by cancer.
