His experiences there were documented in his book Eight Lives Down. Apparently, Chris was so good at his job defusing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by various terrorist factions that snipers would try to take him out at every opportunity. It isn’t just his exploits in Iraq (for which he was awarded the Queen’s Gallantry Medal) that this motivational speaker can share with audiences – a member of the British Army since he was just 16 years old, Hunter also had challenging spells of service in Afghanistan, Northern Ireland, Colombia and the Balkans.

While the terrorists were probably happy to see him call an end to his bomb disposal days, Major Chris Hunter went on to become a senior intelligence analyst at the Ministry of Defence. This period saw him called into COBRA, the UK government’s emergency response unit (which meets in Cabinet Office Briefing Room A) when terrorists attacked London with a series of suicide bombs. Regularly called in by TV and radio stations to share his wisdom and knowledge on current affairs or news programmes, the Major has since left the army and as well as a motivational speaker he is in demand as a writer and consultant on counter-terrorism.
