Dr. Lawrence Ross is the author of several books about African American culture – namely The Divine Nine: History of African American Fraternities and Sororities – Mr. Ross  will discuss the research found in his new book Blackballed: The Black and White Politics of Race on Americas Campuses. This interactive and multimedia lecture will bring light to commentary about campus race relations across America, as told by the experiences of students of color at several predominant institutions is based on his best-selling book, “The Divine Nine: The History of African American Fraternities and Sororities.”  This was the first book written that covered the member organizations of the National Pan-Hellenic Council.

He is also the author of “The Ways of Black Folks: A Year in the Life of a People,” as well as a number of fiction works, and has written commentaries on African American fraternal life and education for various websites.  He has been a guest on National Public Radio and has been interviewed by such publications as “Ebony,” “Savoy,” “Essence,” “Newsweek” and more.

Ross has lectured at more than 350 colleges and universities largely on topics addressed in his book. Since it was published in 2000, “The Divine Nine” has been a Los Angeles Times and Essence magazine bestseller. As an authority on African American fraternal issues, Ross has written articles for CNN and The Root.com. Additionally, he has been interviewed by the BBC, NPR, Essence and other media outlets.
