Kamal Karriem, Jr. has been a preacher pastor and civil rights leader for over 50 years, starting his ministry at the age of 12 under the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and continuing in various pastorates in Mississippi. In 19191, Karriem became North Mississippi’s first African American news anchor and has worked and produced talk radio for over 30 years.
Currently, Karriem is a lead plaintiff in a lawsuit against the 1890 Mississippi Constitution which disenfranchises the African American vote for ex-felons. The case is now in the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Karriem is the author of a book entitled “Pragmatic Nationalism; A Return to Pan-African Roots and Love Supreme; An Open Letter to My Friend the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan”. Karriem has been married to Dr. Dinetta Karriem for 26 years. He is the father of seven children.
