He has led special operations teams as a Team Leader, Platoon Commander, Troop Commander, Task Unit Commander, Operations Officer, and Executive Officer. His acclaimed first novel, The Terminal List, is a political/military thriller about a Navy SEAL who discovers that he has been betrayed by the U.S. government — and his quest for vengeance. Brad Thor, #1 bestselling author and “Master of Thrillers” praised it as “So powerful, so pulse-pounding, so well-written – rarely do you read a debut novel this damn good.”  Carr has expanded on the Terminal List with True Believer, Savage Son, and in 2021 he released the fourth installment of the series, The Devil’s Hand.

A sought-after consultant in the outdoor and tactical industries, Carr speaks regularly on leadership and team building to businesses across industries.

 

Over his 20 years in Naval Special Warfare he transitioned from an enlisted SEAL sniper specializing in communications and intelligence to a junior officer leading assault and sniper teams in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was then a platoon commander practicing counterinsurgency in the southern Philippines and commanded a Special Operations Task Unit in the most tumultuous section of southern Iraq throughout the drawdown of U.S. Forces.

 

Carr serves on the board of directors of Valor for Life, a non-profit organization providing military veterans with no-cost surgical spine care.

 

He retired from active duty in 2016 and lives with his wife and three children in Park City, Utah.
