Emily Dreyfuss is the editorial director of Protocol, a new tech news publication from the publisher of Politico. Previously, she was a senior writer and editor at WIRED and the senior programing manager at CNET. As a 2018 Harvard Nieman-Berkman Klein fellow, Emily studied how the internet changes the historical record. Her work has appeared in Pop-Up Magazine, The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The Week. During the 2016 presidential election, she led WIRED’s National Affairs coverage. Prior to that, she managed and edited WIRED Opinion and WIRED Security sections.

Dreyfuss began her journalism career in 2005 as a beat reporter for a small-town newspaper in Connecticut. She transitioned to covering technology after moving to San Francisco and joining CNET, where she co-created the popular podcast Rumor Has It. Dreyfuss has a bachelor’s degree in English from Wesleyan University. She lives in Boston with her husband, who is a neuroscientist, and their young son.

Her area of expertise is not in any one specific area of technology, but rather, how technology permeates every aspect of life from how we talk to each other to how we work and how we raise our children. Dreyfuss is passionate about language and the ways in which it shapes and is shaped by the invisible forces in society and technology. In her own experience, Dreyfuss uses a robotic counterpart to interact with her San Francisco based office. This is just one example of the innovative use of technology that Dreyfuss is “wired” into and is able to share with others. She has appeared on the BBC, NBC News, PBS, and NPR. Dreyfuss has been a featured speaker for multiple tradeshows and conventions, including the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas where next-generation technologies are introduced to the consumer.

Whether she is sharing insights about the latest breakthroughs in technology, cutting-edge innovations in cybersecurity, the usefulness of robotic counterparts in the office, or the barriers for women who are at the precipice of breaking through the glass ceiling, Emily Dreyfuss is an irreverent, knowledgeable and a compelling keynote speaker. She currently lives in San Francisco.
