Elliott Lewis is a journalist with more than ten years of professional experience as a television reporter. He has worked at WKMG in Orlando, Florida; WKRC in Cincinnati, Ohio; KPTV in Portland, Oregon; KGTV in San Diego, California; and KTVN in Reno, Nevada. He currently lives in the Washington D.C. area and provides his services on a freelance basis for a number of television news outlets in our nation’s capital. He is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the Washington D.C. chapter of the National Speakers Association.

Lewis was born in Cleveland, Ohio, one day after his mother graduated from law school. Both of his parents are of mixed race, but considered themselves “black” given the racial climate during their upbringing. Lewis attended Washington State University from 1984 to 1987, where he majored in Spanish and minored in Communications. After a successful internship at KTVN-TV in Reno, Nevada, the station offered him a full time job as an on-air reporter, thereby launching his television career in January 1988.

Lewis has been dealing with the issues of mixed race all of his life. He is an energetic, down-to-earth, uplifting, thought-provoking, and incredibly funny public speaker on multiracial identity and interracial family issues. He is a biracial television news reporter whose olive skin and brown afro have occasionally confused television viewers as to his ethnic background, in one case prompting a viewer to adjust the color of his television set in an effort to determine Lewis’ racial identity.

In addition to his work on television, Lewis is also known for his documentary work. While working in Portland, Oregon, Lewis produced a documentary on interracial families for which he interviewed several interracial couples and biracial people about the issues mixed race people face. The half-hour broadcast won the 1992 Mass Media Award from the National Conference for Community and Justice for “outstanding contributions to better human relations and the cause of brotherhood.”
