Full Bio
Damon Dash is an entrepreneur, executive producer, and businessman known for his roles as co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records and Rocawear clothing. Dash is also the founder of DD172, a media collective that encompasse: America Nu, a magazine; VNGRD79, a web design firm; and BluRoc Records, a record label division.
Dash was formerly Jay-Z’s manager and business partner at Roc-A-Fella Records. Dash’s working relationship with Jay-Z soured, however, after Roc-A-Fella Records was bought by Def Jam Recordings in 2004 and Jay-Z was made president of Def Jam. Additionally, in 2005, Jay-Z bought Dash out of his share in Rocawear.
As a teenager, Dash swept the floors of a local barbershop and sold newspapers in order to buy sneakers and shirts. He developed his work ethic from the example of his mother, who died of an asthma attack when Dash was 15.
Dash has been romantically involved with several famous women, including R&B singer Aaliyah, who he dated until her tragic death, and his ex-wife, fashion designer Rachel Roy.
