Janney Marin, also known as Chiquis Rivera, has traveled a long, and sometimes unusual road to become the artist, singer-songwriter, bestseller author and business entrepreneur that she is today.
Born into a family of artists, she always had her own dream: to get up on stage and let her voice to be heard. However, many events, turns and falls came her way since she was a little girl, and destiny decided that her career had to wait.
First, Chiquis devoted her teen years and also her early 20’s to help and assist to her mother’s success, the beloved Jenni Rivera, La Diva de La Banda. In that role, Chiquis became a mother to her siblings, a business woman and a producer, with the launching of several perfumes and other enterprises under the Rivera branding.
With time, reality shows came along, and Chiquis captivated the audience with Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis & Raq-C, I Love Jenni, and Chiquis n’ Control. Chiquis established herself as a pioneer in this genre for the Latino world.
After the tragic accident that ended her mother’s life, Chiquis had to face the toughest decisions of all, and overcome the harshest critics and bullying. However, she decided to take it where Jenni left off, honored her mom’s lessons and dreams, and started her own singing career, against all odds. Having a famous last name helps, indeed, but also means a heavy load to carry.
Chiquis Rivera has album “Ahora”, produced number one hits and was honored with multiple music awards.
Her memoir, FORGIVENESS, became a New York Times Best Seller in both English and Spanish, and has appeared in the cover of PEOPLE EN ESPAÑOL, TV y NOVELAS and LATINA MAGAZINE. Recently, Chiquis has successfully launched her own brand of skin and beauty care, Be Flawless.
As a role model, Chiquis has managed to inspire young adults to seek independency and a healthy lifestyle, to love their looks and embrace their individuality. Chiquis created her non-profit organization, BOSSBEE NATION, to provide scholarships and support to many young Latinos who face similar struggles to those she endured herself.
After a windy road and many of those adverse turns, Chiquis has become the voice of a whole generation that is ready to work hard to achieve their dreams, despite the obstacles.
