The author of more than 100 futuristic novels and nonfiction books, he has been involved in science and high technology since the very beginnings of the space age. President Emeritus of the National Space Society and a past president of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Bova was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2001.

He is a member of the board of contributors of “USA Today,” and a widely popular lecturer. He has also appeared on hundreds of radio and television broadcasts, both as a regular guest on “CBS Morning News,” and frequently appearing on “Good Morning America” and the “Today Show.” Previously, Bova was an award-winning editor and an executive in the aerospace industry.

His novels combine romance, adventure and the highest degree of scientific accuracy to show how the human race will expand through the solar system, and the impact this will have on individual human lives and society as a whole. His nonfiction books show how modern technology can be used to solve economic, social and political problems.

In his various writings, Bova has predicted the discovery of life on Mars, the Space Race of the 1960s, solar power satellites, the discovery of organic chemicals in interstellar space, virtual reality, human cloning, the Strategic Defense Initiative (Star Wars), the discovery of ice on the Moon, and electronic book publishing.

Bova taught science fiction at Harvard University and the Hayden Planetarium in New York City, where he also directed film courses. He received his Ph.D. in education from California Coast University, an M.A. in communications from the State University of New York, Albany and a B.A. in journalism from Temple University.

He lectures regularly on topics dealing with the prospects for human immortality, the impact of science on politics (and vice versa), space, the craft of writing and the art of predicting the future.

Bova has received the Isaac Asimov Memorial Award, the E.E. Smith Memorial Award for Imaginative Fiction, the Balrog Award for Professional Achievement, and the Inkpot Award recipient for his outstanding achievements in science fiction. His book, “The Beauty of Light,” was voted one of the best science books of 1988 by the American Librarians’ Association, and “Moonrise” was the Library Journal’s best science fiction novel of 1996.

Bova was manager of marketing for Avco Everett Research Laboratory in Massachusetts and worked with leading scientists in fields such as high-power lasers, artificial hearts and advanced electrical power generators. Prior to that he wrote scripts for teaching films with the Physical Sciences Study Committee in association with Nobel Laureates from many universities.

A member of the Arizona Astronomy Board, Bova was also on the Steering Committee for the NASA/Space Transportation Association study on space tourism. In addition to being a member of the Board of Governors of the National Space Society, he is also a charter member of the Planetary Society, and a Fellow of the British Interplanetary Society. Temple University has honored him as a Distinguished Alumnus and Alumni Fellow.
