Full Bio

A multi-Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist, Barry Nolan has more than three decades of reporting expertise. From the klieg lights of entertainment journalism at “Extra!” to the breaking news coverage at “Hard Copy,” Barry Nolan knows what it takes to cover the news and make it entertaining. And for the past 16 years, he has also been fielding a bewildering array of questions as a panelist for the National Public Radio show “Says You.” (That’s why he was invited to give the keynote address at an annual Mensa convention.)

Barry Nolan writes a regular column for Boston Magazine, lectures at Boston University on reporting, and recently he added documentary filmmaker to his resume. He and his wife Garland Waller have just finished production of “No Way Out But One”, a feature length documentary film.

In 2009, Nolan moved from TV to politics and served on Capitol Hill as the Communications Director for the Congressional Joint Economic Committee, right in the midst of the Great Meltdown.

Previously, as host and executive producer of “Backstage with Barry Nolan” he provided CN-8 viewers with a backstage pass to what’s happening on and off the red carpet on a 60-minute national entertainment show. For CN-8, he also hosted and produced “Nitebeat”, a “talk show for smart people” that featured everything from politics, to particle physics.

Nolan served as senior correspondent for “Extra,” one of the nation’s highest rated nationally syndicated newsmagazine shows, and as co-anchor for the long-running newsmagazine “Hard Copy.” He hosted “Over the Edge” for ABC and served as Correspondent for Fox TV’s “Beyond 2000.”

But New England audiences may know him best for his role as co-host of “Evening Magazine.” For his work on the show, he won three Emmy Awards, as well as a Gabriel Award.

In addition to his broadcast work, Nolan has also been seen on the big screen, in films such as “Birdcage,” “Primary Colors,” “In the Army Now” and “Superstar.” His has had guest starring roles on “Seinfeld,” “Jag,” “Dweebs,” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.”
