An award-winning media executive, Amy DuBois Barnett has held senior leadership roles at Time Inc, Hearst and Disney, and has also successfully grown several independently owned media brands. In her current role at Outside Interactive, Inc., she oversees the company’s 30+ brands as their first-ever Chief Content Officer. Outside Interactive is the world’s leading creator of active and healthy lifestyle content, events, and experiences.

Formerly, Barnett was an SVP and General Manager at ViacomCBS, where she had P&L responsibility of BET’s digital platforms. She developed and executed a creative vision and business strategy that served 62 million followers and generated 2 billion annual video views. In 2021, she drove an unprecedented 10x increase in BET Digital’s operating income.

In her prior years as EVP, Digital of Entertainment Studios and theGrio, Barnett increased monthly video views by 600% and the social footprint by 250%. She was also a senior executive at ESPN where she led the development and launch of ESPN’s critically acclaimed digital brand, The Undefeated.

Before ESPN, Barnett was Editor-in-Chief of Ebony where she redesigned and modernized the magazine and website to critical acclaim. Under her leadership, Ebony won a record-breaking 28 awards from the National Association of Black Journalists and was listed as one of the 25 Fastest Growing Magazines in the Country by Ad Age.

Prior to Ebony, Barnett was the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Harper’s Bazaar where she oversaw their digital relaunch. As Chief Editor, Barnett grew Teen People’s print and digital audience to category leadership. As Editor-in-Chief of Honey magazine, she doubled the rate base and earned national recognition for the young brand.

Barnett has a B.A. from Brown University and an M.F.A. from Columbia University. In 2014, she served as an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. Barnett is also the author of the NAACP Image Award-nominated book, Get Yours: How to Have Everything You Ever Dreamed of and More.

An athlete and global adventurer, Barnett has lived in 12 cities on three continents and is fluent in French. She has trekked through the Andes, shot Class V rapids on the Zambezi, kayaked to a glacier in Iceland, and visited 34 U.S. National Parks.
