Alex showed incredible promise early on in his career. It wasn’t long before his talents were recognised by the legendary Sir Keith Mills, who played an important role in bringing the Olympic– and Paralympic games to London in 2012. Participating in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in 1999, Alex became the youngest skipper ever to have emerged victorious from a round-the-world yacht race. His record still stands to this day, having achieved an astonishing average speed of 22.4 knots over the course of 537 nautical miles.

Picking up sponsorship from top fashion brand Hugo Boss, Alex continued to participate in further races in the years that followed. During this time, Alex was confronted with numerous obstacles on the way to the finish line. His vessel suffered damage during races in 2004 and 2008, forcing him to retire from the contest. He returned to the Vendee Globe race undeterred in 2012 and 2016, finishing in third and second place respectively. In 2016, he broke further records by setting a new fastest time between Sables d’Olonne and the Equator.

Alex has also acquired a reputation as a daredevil sportsman, attempting an array of exciting stunts such as The Keel Walk, The Mast Walk and the Skywalk. Footage of his attempts has proven immensely popular with sports enthusiasts around the world, racking up millions of views on online platforms. Drawing upon his vast experience as a sportsman, Alex has grown to become one of the country’s best-loved sports speakers. As a result, he continues to appear regularly as a speaker at corporate events and gala dinners, motivating his audience to step out of their comfort zone and achieve professional success.
