An Evening With African American Dance Ensemble
The LECTURE DEMOSTRATION, one of AADE’s most popular offerings, is a 45-minutes visual extravaganza of dance, music, song, and poetry and provides an introduction to the dance, music and cultural history of the nations of Africa and diaspora. The LEC/DEM is a unique educational experience, engaging audiences in a lively celebration of life as practiced in the diverse cultures of contemporary Africa. Examples of traditional African dance and music styles are interspersed with commentaries on the history and folklore. The performers wear authentic African-attire, and educational materials are available which describe the clothing, vocabulary, and dance. Audience participation is an integral part of this activity. It is ideally suited for school assemblies, seminars, workshops, outdoor festivals, and large group gatherings.
The MOVEMENT DANCE SESSION provides an introduction to traditional African movement and is excellent for people who like to dance (and for those who don’t yet know they like to dance), but have little or no dance training. It is suitable for all ages (30 to 50 participants).
The MASTER DANCE CLASS is designed for teen and/or adult dancers who are technically proficient dancers and want to learn more advanced movement (up to 30 participants).
SPECIALISED WORKSHOPS based on traditional African and African American dance and music can be designed to suit any type of audience or any age group. Workshops offer a more detailed focus on a particular concept, such as rites of passage, team building, community corporate, and school settings.
The CONCERT PROGRAM, the culminating event in most residences, is a breathtaking blend of artistry, athleticism, dynamism, and explosive energy. Featuring a traditional African, contemporary African American, and modern dance repertoire, the concert program presents dances choreographed by AADE Founder and Artistic Director, CHUCK DAVIS and may include works by such noted master Choreographers as David Dorfman, Ron K. Brown, Dr. Kariamu Welsh, Donald McKayle, Assane Konte, and Sandra Burton.
The SCHOOL CONCERT is a blend of lecture/demonstration and African dance performance. Ideal for a school setting, the school concert can accommodate a large number of students
