Marcus Reeves has written about pop music, Black youth culture and politics for over 20 years. He is the author of “Somebody Scream! Rap Music’s Rise to Prominence in the Aftershock of Black Power”, which was nominated for a Hurston-Wright Legacy Award.
He is also the host and producer of a talk/mix radio show named after his book on WBAI 99.5 FM. A former digital content producer for both BET.com and VH1.com, Reeves has also contributed essays to books, including “Souls of My Brothers, Hip Hop: A Cultural Odyssey”, and “Vibe’s History of Hip Hop”, and his writing has appeared in The Washington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, Playboy, the Village Voice, The New York Times, and Rolling Stone. Reeves teaches Interviews and Profiles at NYUSPS in the Center for Applied Liberal Arts.
