Montel Williams earned his media celebrity status as an inspirational Emmy Award winning television personality whom Americans invited into their homes for more than 17 years. He is a decorated former naval officer, inspirational speaker, author, entrepreneur and advocate for patients worldwide.

One of Williams’ current focuses is on NeuroHabilitation Corporation (NHC), a company he formed with three scientific inventors at the University of WI, medical device specialist Jonathan Sackier, and CEO Phil Deschamps, after Williams was involved in an MS study with the treatment at the University of Wisconsin, http://tcnl.bme.wisc.edu. The treatment involves sending specially-patterned nerve impulses to a patient's brain through an electrode-covered oral device called a "PoNS," a battery-operated appliance placed on the tongue.

The 20-30 minute stimulation therapy, called cranial nerve non-invasive neuromodulation, or CN-NiNM, is accompanied with a custom set of physical, occupational, and cognitive exercises, based on the patient's deficits. The idea is to improve the brain's organizational ability and allow the patient to regain neural control. On February 8, 2013, the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with NeuroHabilitation Corporation.

The new Agreement allows the Army to work with NHC and TCNL to further develop and evaluate the PoNS™ device for use with soldiers who have experienced blast-related traumatic brain injuries. Williams is also an advisor to Golden Renewable Energy (GRE), a Yonkers, NY based biofuel company. GRE produces EPA recognized renewable fuel from waste.

Through the combination of a unique process referred to as fluidized catalytic assisted thermal cracking or otherwise referred to as fluid catalytic cracking (“FCC”), GRE is able to convert a variety of carbon based waste feedstock materials into various renewable fuels. GRE has validated its proprietary processing techniques over the past 5 years using municipal waste and other forms of feedstock to produce EPA accepted renewable fuels such as ASTM D975 diesel fuel. GRE currently operates 1 plant in Yonkers, NY and is working on several additional prospective site locations within the New York City area.

Because of Williams’ own military service, he has a special place in his heart for our servicemen and women. Williams works closely with Fisher House and has gone to Afghanistan to visit with US troops on the frontline. Giving back has always been a priority for Williams. Over the years he has been involved in charities promoting diversity, the welfare of children, animal rights and the well-being of active duty troops and veterans to name just a few.

Williams developed the The Living Well with Montel brand in 2006, which incorporates Williams’ life experience and the information he has accumulated through personal account and professional opinions. Williams created the first talkmercial, which launched to great success in 2009 with the Healthmaster emulsifier in partnership with TriStar Products, Inc. The brand now encompasses several products representing hundreds of millions in sales.

Williams launched a new online wellness community this summer in partnership with Union Springs Media, hosted at www.livingwellwithmontel.com Williams hosted “The Montel Williams Show”, a nationally syndicated talk show distributed by CBS Paramount Television, for 17 years, taping over 3,500 shows and interviewing more than 30,000 guests focusing on key social issues involving ordinary people coping with extraordinary circumstances. He received a Daytime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host, and later his show was nominated for Outstanding Talk Show two years in a row.

Williams enjoys acting and performs whenever his schedule permits. Over the past few years, viewers may have seen him on hit television programs including “All My Children.” “American Dreams” and “JAG.” Williams contributed to the long running dramatic series “Guiding Light” playing “Clayton Boudreau”, which landed him a nomination in 2009 for a NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in Television Series. He also starred in the critically acclaimed off-Broadway play “The Exonerated”.

Williams also starred and executive produced a prime time network series for CBS, “The Education of Matt Waters”. Williams has been a prolific author of uplifting and practical books, of which four became bestsellers. They include “Living Well Emotionally: Breakthrough to a Life of Happiness”,” Living Well: 21 Days to Transform Your Life, Supercharge Your Health, and Feel Spectacular”, “ Climbing Higher”,” Body Change”,” Life Lessons and Reflections”, “A Dozen Ways to Sunday: Stories of Hope and Courage”, ”Mountain Get Out of My Way: Life Lessons and Learned Truths” and “Practical Parenting”. Shortly after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 1999, Williams established the Montel Williams MS Foundation to further the scientific study of MS, provide financial assistance to select organizations and institutions conducting research, raise national awareness, and educate the public.

The MWMSF has granted over $1.5 million dollars to research and has supported a study done at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, which discovered an MS gene. Williams began his professional career in the US Marine Corps and was the first black Marine selected to the Naval Academy Prep School to then go on to graduate from the United States Naval Academy.

Williams earned a degree in general engineering and a minor in international security affairs. While serving in the military Williams’ was the recipient of two Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy Commendation Medals, and two Navy Achievement

  • From suicidal to ‘thriving’: Montel Williams details his emotional journey with MS

    Tuesday, March 6, 2018

At the age of 43, author, actor, TV host, and entrepreneur Montel Williams was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). “I was on an airplane flying from New York to Utah to shoot an episode of the show Touched by an Angel. I got on this plane in the morning and my feet caught on fire,” Williams tells Yahoo Lifestyle, holding back tears. “The pain was so extreme, and when I focus in on it I can sense it, I can remember it. It was so bad that I literally couldn’t stand up at the end of the flight.”

When Williams was diagnosed with MS shortly thereafter, he says the doctor who diagnosed him gave him a “death sentence” and a litany of opioid prescriptions to dull the pain. “I was walking around in this pseudo-suicidal state,” Williams says. “After my second attempt at taking my own life, I recognized that I was going to not just live with this, I was going to figure out — in some way, shape, or form — how to turn this into something I could thrive at.”

Grand Valley State University welcomed Dr. Antonia Novello Wednesday, Sept. 27, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Novello was the first woman, and the first Hispanic, to be appointed the 14th surgeon general of the U.S. Public Health Service in 1990.

Dr. Cynthia McCurren, dean of the Kirkhof College of Nursing at GVSU, introduced Novello through a personal memory of Novello’s appointment in 1990 and the important role that she not only played in her own life, but in the public health sphere as well.

“As an individual that’s been in nursing for over 30 years, and therefore more broadly in health care, I’m very much impressed and influenced by those who provide leadership and who take on the responsibility of the leadership as much as at the national person,” McCurren said. “This is a person that I remember her appointment when I was going through my times working in health care, and my continuing to work in health care, she has made an impression on me.”

Carla Harris isn't your average banker.

In addition to being the vice chairman of wealth management at Morgan Stanley (ms, +0.82%), Harris chairs the National Women’s Business Council (NWBC), an advisory panel to Congress and President Barack Obama on economic issues important to female business owners. And she sings. Really, really well. So well, in fact, that she's had four of her Carnegie Hall concerts sell out entirely.
